It Is Well

Have you ever been a passenger in a car and before you knew it; your foot was applying pressure to that imaginary brake pedal on the floorboard?  Well, you are not alone! This is the example the Holy Spirit has given me to learn how to give God complete control in every area of my life.  To start this lesson, I was lead to John 21:15-17 where Jesus asked Peter three times, if he loved Him and each time, Peter told the Lord that he did, without a doubt, love Him.  Then I heard in my spirit, “Do you trust me?”  After repenting, the Holy Spirit revealed to me some areas of my life that, if I would give up control, He would ensure that all would be well.   As I was getting ready for bed that evening, I asked the Father to teach me about trust, and show me what I needed to do to trust Him completely.  That next morning I woke up with the refrain from the song “It is Well with My Soul.”  Since all I knew was the refrain, I went to the internet to get the complete song.  The song is beautiful, however; it was the biography of the writer, a prominent lawyer by the name of Horatio Spafford that stuck a cord with me.  Here is just a snippet of his life: Following the death of his 4-year-old son, he experienced financial ruin after the great Chicago fire and the economic downturn of 1873.  Later, he planned a trip with his family to travel to Europe on the SS Ville du Havre.  At the last minute, Mr. Spafford sent his family ahead and stayed in Chicago to tend to some unresolved business. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship that carried his wife and four daughters sank after colliding with a sea vessel.  All four of his daughters died.  His wife was the only one that survived.  On the way to meet his grieving wife, Mr. Spafford was inspired to write the words to this song as his ship passed near where his daughters had died.  He and his wife later had three more children, one of which died in infancy.  They moved to Jerusalem and helped found the American Colony, a mission to help the poor.                  Click here to watch a video - Mr. Spafford After wiping my eyes and blowing my nose, I opened my daily devotional and the title for that day was “It’s All Good” with 2 Kings 4:8-37 as the reference to read.   After reading the text, I took time to read the story about the Shunammite woman who, when her young son died, was not moved by what she saw or felt.  Instead, she said, “It is well.”  I’m not familiar with the lyrics to the song I woke up with, but I sing the refrain all the time now and the peace that comes over me is indescribable.  Since that day, I have made a choice to learn how to trust God.  Interestingly enough, I am discovering how trust has a direct correlation with faith.  Without faith, there is no trust.  I have much to learn about both.  My journey has just begun and I have a trustworthy driver.  He has a good plan for my life.  We are taking His vehicle and the route is loaded into His GPS (God’s Protective Shield)!  There may not be a radio, but I have a new song to sing.  I am along for the ride and “It is Well with my Soul”.                        It Is Well With My Soul - YouTube

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

For the most part, a lot of people would like to believe the decisions they make pose no real threat to their well being.  

The Bible says otherwise in Proverbs 14:12.  

How we view things in life determines how we make our decisions.  If we make bad financial decisions, how do we view money?  Is money something we are a slave to or should we have command over it?  Whether it is finances, relationships, work, or health every Christian needs to have their mind renewed to what the Bible says about these topics.  



Of course, those are just a handful of topics I mentioned and the Bible addresses every issue one needs to know to live a full and successful life. 

If given a choice, people do not want to live in misery.  Jesus said, in John 10:10, The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. 



 Jesus did not come to give us a life of misery.  He came so we may have life and have it more abundantly.

 In order to have that life, our decisions have to line up with God’s Word.  We need to see, think and act like Jesus and the only way to do that is meditate on His Word.  This is beyond just saying what would Jesus do and coming up with something that isn’t even scriptural.  We need to have our minds renewed to His Word.  When our minds are renewed to His Word we can see what Jesus would see.  We can think like Jesus would think and we can act like Jesus would act.  Does this sound impossible?  It really isn’t.  

The Bible says in Psalm 1:2-3 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 

 Note what it says here, “His law doth he meditate day and night” and “whatsoever he doeth shall prosper”.  

That law the Bible is speaking about is God’s Word.  If I were to meditate on God’s Word it means I would ponder, imagine, speak, study, talk, utter, converse with myself, declare, muse, pray, speak, and talk with God in prayer about it. This process literally changes your mind to think like Jesus.  

If you know anything about the Bible, Jesus never made bad decisions.  It is time that we start mediating on God’s Word in areas that are holding us in captivity.  For example, if you are having trouble forgiving others, meditate on Matthew 6:14 because if you forgive people their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  And also Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.  After some time, your thoughts will turn to forgiving whoever wronged you so you won’t live in bitterness, resentment, and unforgiveness.  That decision will free you from a life of bondage.  

We all need to make right decisions but in order to do that we need to renew our minds with the Word of God.

The Love of God

‘For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoseoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life’ John 3:16.  

Let us take a deep look into this verse.  Can you imagine someone taking a punch in the face so that you can live a life free of sickness?  Can you imagine someone being kicked in the back of the head so that no weapon formed against you shall prosper?  What about someone having a nail, most likely the size of railroad ties, driven through their wrist so that you may have peace both on the Earth and throughout eternity?

I want you to imagine yourself being this person.  Think about how much you would have to love a person to take this sort of torture for them.  Oh, do not forget that you know for several years leading up to the day of torture what is going to happened.  In addition, you have every opportunity to back out.

Obviously, I am referring to the life of Jesus and his purpose here on Earth.  In Matthew 26:39, Jesus prayed, “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me:”  He is asking that he not endure what is coming because he knows how horrible it is going to be.  But then the second part of the prayer is “nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”  Despite the knowledge that he has, he will go through with his calling because it is the will of God.  This not only speaks to the love that Jesus has for the world, but it also speaks to the love and trust that he has for God.

In Matthew 4 Jesus was tempted by Satan to not go through with the calling that God had put on his life.  In verse 9, Satan offered Jesus all of the kingdoms of the world.  So, at that very point in history, Jesus made a choice to resist the wiles of the devil and to accept the calling of Jesus.  The world should be thankful that He chose the unselfish path.

Now that you have attempted to relate to Jesus, take it one step further.  Try to imagine the position of God.  Send your only son into a place that will not accept him.  Into a place where he will be ridiculed, persecuted, and eventually tortured and murdered.  Then, he is going to be sent to hell for three days so that the very people that murdered him can have a way to avoid hell.  In addition, throughout time, people attempt to deny that this incredible sacrifice even happened.  Despite knowing all of this, God sent Jesus to the Earth knowing the he would be tempted by Satan, knowing that he would request an alternative, and knowing that there would still be those that rejected Him.

Think about how much God loved us to put His Son through that.  Think about the words of John 3:16 and how true the love of God really is.  Think of how much love God must have for each and every one of us that he will accept us into His Kingdom just for accepting Jesus into our hearts.  He is not asking for us to endure anything close to the sacrifices of His Son.  Instead, He is offering us everlasting life, health, security, and peace.  All of these things were taken from His Son so that we may have them.  The love that God must have for us to do what he did is a love that I want and need a revelation of.  If God will offer up his own son as a sacrifice for my sins so that I may live without lack, without sickness, and without the curse, what would God not do for me?  

Once we get a revelation of the depth of God’s love, we will understand that he has already provided everything we need.  Once we understand this, nothing else will matter except God’s will being done on Earth, and once we are focused on His will, we will stop asking Him for worldly things and start asking what He would have us do for His Kingdom.

You Are Given Everything You Need To Live

One of my favorite verses (and I have many) J is Isaiah 54:17.

Is says in the KJV, “No weapon formed against thee shall prosper and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.”

The AMP version states, “But no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall show to be in the wrong. This (peace, righteousness, security, triumph over opposition) is the heritage of the servant of the Lord (those in whom the Servant of the Lord is reproduced); this is the righteousness or the vindication which they obtain from Me (this is that which I impart to them as their justification), says the Lord."

We live in a fallen world. That means that even though God had originally intended it to be for mankind to dominate and rule, it was given over to satan when man fell in the garden. As a result, unless you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you are subject to satan’s rule here on the earth.

As a believer in Christ you are given everything you need to live and overcome in this fallen world. Everything satan has to offer is through deception, but Jesus beat deception and showed us how to do the same. That excites me!!

So what are weapons that are formed against us? Sickness and disease, unforgiveness, depression, debt, strife, lust, pride, etc. are all weapons satan uses to bring you down and cause you to draw away from God.

The tongues that rise up against you are those that say things like…you will never get out of this situation, you only have 3 months to live, certain things in the Word of God don’t apply today, you are worthless, you are never going to amount to anything, etc.

But, you know what? If you read that verse carefully it says those weapons will not prosper and you will prove those wrong who speak against you!

Isn’t that Good News??

I will go on to say that there is a choice that you have to make - to believe God and His Word and to trust Him in every situation. If you give in to these weapons and tongues that rise up against you, then you are ALLOWING satan to have reign in your life rather than God. And trust me it does not go well with you when you do that.

I want to encourage you that the SECOND something comes against you, let’s just say a cold for instance, you recognize that it is not from God and you use the Word against it, just as Jesus did when He was tempted of the devil. I actually use this verse and say: “No weapon of sickness formed against me shall prosper because I am a saint of God and am under His covenant of healing, for that is my heritage!” Guess what? It leaves immediately!! Praise the Lord!

Find the promises of God and write them down, study them and hide them away in your heart so that when the storms of life and the affairs of this world come against you, you will have a foundation to stand upon and to fight with.

No One In The World Is Good

No one in the world is good.

Making such a statement does not imply that one is bitter or jaded. It simply means that the only good thing that exists does not dwell in this physical world but rather in the spirit world.

He is a spirit, and his name is God.

He is an omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent being that can be challenged by none other. He is a loving God that has no limitations. In fact, God's goodness is more than t

he mind can understand and is only limited by one's capacity to receive.

God is not a Greek mythical creature that is out-dated and out-of-touch. He loves everyone very much and calls everyone his friend and heir.

God wants to bless everyone in all aspects of a life, just as He has so powerfully blessed my family.

My father has always been a very healthy individual who never had a need for a doctor. However, when he began to experience symptoms of immense bleeding, he took one of his first trips to the emergency room. The doctors diagnosed him with an incurable, fatal disease. Its name was terminal colon cancer. My family went to war not with the vicious illness that has taken an innumerable number of lives; but rather, we fought Satan.

Ephesians 6:12 states, "For we wrestle not against flesh an

d blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

We did precisely this. However, we did not fight alone. We had the most powerful spiritual warfare weapon that a Christian has at his disposal-God's goodness. God was good throughout the entire experience. When my father was diagnosed, God was good. We all had more peace in our lives than ever before. When my father underwent chemotherapy treatment, he did not experience one negative side-affect that so often plagues this form of treatment. When my father was healed, God was good. He healed my father of that wicked illness, leaving the medical staff at the hospital befuddled. We grew spiritually to a point that we h

ad not previously been.

What Satan meant for bad, God made good.

God provides mental growth and restoration for everyone that receives it.

In 2 Timothy 1:7, the Bible informs, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

So many people live miserable lives filled with fear and depression. When this verse uses the word "us", it is referring simply to those that are believers in God.

Bipolar disease, schizophrenia, and depression are not in the vocabulary of Christians unless it involves a testimony. We are freed from such entrapments by the goodness of God. People are also gifted with supreme cognitive abilities if they simply believe in God's promise.

This verse also entirely extinguishes fear of anything, anything at all. This includes but is never limited to the fear of heights, dark, rejection, failure, or anything that is not in God's kingdom.

Most of all, God loves you.

This is the single best thing that could ever be done for humanity. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for everyone's sins.

Now, if one accepts Jesus into his heart, that person may enjoy all the benefits of God's kingdom.

Trade your carnal life for eternal life and the citizenship of the kingdom of pain and darkness for the Kingdom of life and love.

This is a simple decision that Romans 10:9-10 explains very clearly by stating, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

God loves you and wants you to be part of His kingdom.

The Importance of Your Confession



If we are to make our faith effective (active, powerful) and enjoy the full benefits of salvation, we must learn to do what it says in Philemon 1:6

“That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.”

God’s Word says that when we do this our faith becomes effective. You must acknowledge every good thing which you posses after making Jesus Lord of your life. Acknowledgement involves making a confession.



Our confession is mentioned three times in the book of Hebrews.

(Hebrews 3:1, Hebrews 4:14, and Hebrews 10:21-23)

Our confession is mentioned elsewhere in God’s Word. I am taking the text of Hebrews as a point of study.



Our tongue connects us to the ministry of Jesus as our High Priest. Jesus entered into a ministry as our high priest, representing us in the presence of His Father after he died, rose again, and ascended into heaven. He is our high priest on the condition that we make the right confession with our tongue.



Hebrews 3:1 “Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;”



Notice what the Bible says here: “Jesus is the High Priest of our profession”. The word profession is translated in the Greek as confession or “to say the same things as.”



Jesus ministry as High Priest operates on our spoken confession not on our unspoken faith. It is important that we maintain a right confession with our mouth. When we agree with God’s Word in faith with our mouth it enables Jesus to exercise his ministry as High Priest on our behalf. His priesthood cannot operate on our behalf if there is no confession that agrees with His Word.



Wrong confession frustrates His ministry. The Bible tells us that we will give an account of every idle word that we speak.



Matthew 12:36 “But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment”

Matthew 12:37 “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”



What are idle words? The word idle means “worthless”. Speaking words that are not in agreement with God’s Word. Idle words involve saying things that would contradict or exalt itself above God’s Word. Jesus cannot act on your behalf when you speak idle words.

Our confession linking us to the priesthood of Jesus is brought out two more times in Hebrews.



Hebrews 4:14 “Seeding then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.”



Hebrews 10:21 “And having a high priest over the house of God;”

Hebrews 10:22 “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”

Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)”



The right confession is essential for Jesus to operate as our High Priest. Faith is not exercised with idle words. Wrong confession…Jesus cannot operate as your High Priest.



Right confession is essential for salvation. There is a direct link with our heart and mouth. (Luke 6:45) Salvation depends on two things: Exercising faith in our hearts and making the right confession.



Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Romans 10:10 “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”



The word “salvation” in the Bible means more than just having eternal life. It means completeness in all areas of life. When you start making the right confession that agrees with God’s Word you can start moving into the full provision of salvation.



Look at the illustration of the tongue in James.



James 3:4 “Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.”

James 3:5 “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!”



What the rudder is to the ship, the use of the tongue will determine which direction you go. Examine your path. Are you experiencing good things or bad things? Use God’s word to determine if you are living the life Jesus promised in John 10:10.



Here is a simple prayer that you can pray to help with what you say.


Psalm 19:34 “Let the words of my mouth, and the mediation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”

The disciples asked Jesus a question in John 6:28 “What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?” Jesus answer was very simple and straight to the point. In John 6:29 He said, This is the work of God, that you believe on Him whom He hath sent.”

What did Jesus mean by that? He simply was saying “If you want to do the works of my Father you must believe on me.” What does believing on Jesus involve? It involves believing in God’s Word. John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:14 says “And the Word was made flesh….” Jesus is the Word! If I believe on Jesus, I believe the Word of God!

What did Jesus tell the disciples to do? BELIEVE! He was telling them that their belief system was important. What do you believe in? Are you always looking for disaster or do you go back to God’s Word and agree with Mark 9:23 Where Jesus said, “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

Let’s take a look at the “Works of God”. What are the works of God? Jesus said in John 8:29 “I do always those things that please Him.” Whatever Jesus did was the result of what His Father wanted him to do. What did Jesus do? Acts 10:38 describes Jesus ministry. “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” His ministry was a reflection of the “Works of God.”

What you believe in is important! The Bible tells us how to change our belief system in Romans 12:1-2.
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Start today by being a doer of God’s Word. Give God’s Word priority and final authority in your life. Say “I believe God’s Word. God’s Word is true.”
